State Personnel Development Grant
(SPDG)
Southwest Kansas Behavior Support
Network
The Southwest Kansas Behavior Support
Network is a collaborative effort to increase positive behavior supports
for children, families and educators. A State Personnel Development
Grant (SPDG) was awarded in July 2009 to further this effort. The
targeted population of the grant focuses on 33 school districts in
Southwest Kansas. The grant provides for general and special education
students age 3-21 within Tiers 1, 2, 3 on the Kansas Multiple Tiers
System of Support model.
The primary objective for the Behavior Support Network is to train
behavioral consulting teams to work with local school staff to develop
supports for students at Tiers 1, 2, 3 on a Multi-Tier System of
Supports (MTSS) model. The objective is to build local capacity within
school districts to help all students improve behavior and social skills
through a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support approach. The
collaborative teaming between the four special education districts
allows common trainings and cross-district supports. More specifically,
behavior teams have been developed within each agency with primary
responsibilities to:
1. Raise the level of acceptance and support strategies for all
students;
2. Support districts in School-Wide Positive Behavior Support efforts;
3. Provide behavior in-service and consultation for students at Tiers 1
and 2 and;
4. Provide customized, intensive supports for students with behavioral
needs at the Tier 3 level.
